ADULT INDIVIDUALS

I provide psychotherapy and consultation services to adult individuals and families alike, concerning a wide variety of issues. If you’re wondering whether it’s time to seek therapy, you might first want to take a look at this guide.

While most of us go through life just fine without therapy, I think it is healthy to want and need the care and assistance of others along the way. Perhaps you’ve been living with chronic pain or illness for a long time or you might have undergone a move, job change or are new to the state or country. Maybe your child or children have entered adolescence and it feels to you like the family is losing a sense of cohesion and predictability…as eyes (including your own) get stuck in computers and cellphones. It could be that you’ve experienced a job loss and are really questioning everything in your life.  Albeit very different, these experiences share similarities: transition in the family is always a matter of coming to terms with loss, and finding new strengths and hope in the process.

Working together, we can move towards:

  • Better understanding of your thoughts, feelings and relationships with others

  • Coping with the various, changing roles and demands of daily living

  • Developing strategies to address unproductive patterns that cause stress in your life

  • Reducing overwhelming feelings of anxiety and depression that often accompany intense, rapidly changing circumstances

  • Re-imagining yourself and your life after experiencing a profound change or loss

  • Adjusting to what a particular illness or loss means to your family —whether those changes are temporary or permanent

  • Understanding and working through acute stress or trauma, for example, by knowing the signs and symptoms and how to respond safely and healthfully

  • Knowing that there are somewhat predictable stages with grief and loss and learning how to use this information to lessen the pain

  • Finding resources inside yourself and out in the community to aid in the process of healing

  • Support through the challenging process of looking for a partner or staying healthy and close in your current relationship

  • Identifying better, more effective parenting strategies
